How to fall asleep naturally - don't become a pill popper
Anyone suffering from insomnia or any sleeping disorder has one simple goal; to fall asleep and stay asleep for the entire night if possible. There are plenty of pills available that can help you sleep but fewer people are taking this route now because of how addictive certain sleeping tablets can become. People who become addicted don't even notice at first. There is, of course, the additional worry of overdosing on the sleeping tablets. There are several totally natural ways that a person can induce sleep without the use of any drugs at all.
One very simple method for helping you fall asleep naturally is to change your lifestyle a little. All you need to do is create a relaxation period just before you're going to bed. Today people are in the habit of listening to music, eating late and watching TV in bed. All of these activities force your brain to become more active and provide it with lots of stimulation just before you're trying to get asleep. Bad idea! Cut out mental stimulation before you go to bed and if you have to listen to music then make sure it's something very natural and relaxing.
Another way to help you fall asleep naturally each night is to create a ritual around or your bed time that relaxes you enough to want to sleep. Cast your mind back to when you were a kid and your parents read you a bedtime story before tucking you in and kissing you goodnight. This simple routine conditioned you to relax and fall asleep more quickly and you'd often doze off before the story was even finished.
Having a regular bedtime routine can be just as effective for an adult or older person that is having trouble getting to sleep each night. For some people, taking a relaxing bath right before bedtime is the best way to relax each night. Other people may turn to the old favorite of a glass of warm milk and soothing music to get them in the mood for a good night’s sleep.
Essential oils are also a great way to relax you before you go to bed. If you can take a warm bath just before bed. Fill the bath with warm water and put in a few drops of either lavender, rose, chamomile, sandalwood or ylang ylang oil and let yourself soak in the warm scented water. You'll be stunned at just how relaxing the oils can be. You can also mix them up by adding a few drops of 2 or 3 different oils and creating your own essential oil blend.
If you're in a hurry to sleep (can you be in a hurry to get asleep?) then you can just put a few drops of lavender or ylang ylang oil on your pillow to help you sleep more restfully. Lavender essential oil is also great for all types of headaches.
Choosing a way to relax the body and the mind will depend on the person’s personal preference and will often take some adjusting before the person finds the right routine for their needs. Taking pills is the quick and easy option but they don't always give you the best type of sleep which normally can only occur naturally. The longer you practice the natural methods for falling asleep the quicker they'll become second nature to you.
