Fall Asleep Faster and Sray Asleep Longer
Insomnia is no laughing matter and is a condition that affects millions of sleepless people all over the world each night. Having ongoing problems with getting asleep can have a variety of really negative ffects on a person and the longer the sleep disorder continues the worse the person will feel. Each passing night without sleep makes you feel just that little bit worse. Generally after 5 consecutive days without sleep a person will start to physically and mentally suffer - in quite serious ways.
There's lots of information online and offline about how you can fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer. The reality is that there are two ways a person can fall asleep:
1. Eliminate the cause of their sleep disorder
2. Use a sleeping aid (medication, music or sleep assistive devices)
Both of these methods have pros and cons and can easily be changed if they're not working for the persons situation.
Most people choose to change their lifestyle as a method of curing insomnia. This can be as simple as just not watching television before you go to bed or while you're in bed. Better again just get rid of the tv from the bedroom altogether. Watching TV stimulates your mind and your sense and can keep you awake all night if you allow it. Your bedroom is for sleeping and relaxation so try to eliminate having something noisy like a tv in the room unless you can't help it.
You could also create a relaxation ritual that is designed to relax your body and mind before you hit the sheets. A long relaxing bath infused with lavender essential oil is a great way to relax. Other essential oils you can use are rose or ylang ylang to help you nod off.
Other people use music and the gentle glow of scented candles to create a totally relaxed atmosphere in their bedroom. The scents and the lower light levels prompt your body to prepare itself for sleep. It is much easier for most people to fall asleep once their body and their mind have relaxed enough for sleeping through the night.
For anyone who has tried the above but it has't worked then it may be time to look at sleeping aids instead. The mose common sleep aids are different types of medicatoin that have a proven ability to help people fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer. Sleeping inducing medication can be bought over-the-counter but some of the tablets will require a prescription. These drugs should be taken in moderation because they carry a risk of dependence (becoming addicted to the sleeping tablet) that can be very difficult for the person to recover from. More and more people are looking at natural alternatives to avoid the potential problem of chemical addiction.
